Portrait of Hillary and Bill Clinton as a political partnership.
Publication: Hillary und Bill Clinton, in: Liebe an der Macht, Berlin 2004.
Successful and popular prime-time ARD series on couples in power (Gorbatschew, Honecker, Clinton), exclusive interviews with people of the inner circle of the Clinton power couple. “This is the story of a strong but unequal couple. Contemporary witnesses and biographers come to a similar conclusion, which, put bluntly, describes Bill Clinton as a pathologically sex-obsessed, uncontrolled man, but recognizes Hillary Clinton as the more important political figure of the two. In 1992, the Democratic Party nominated Bill Clinton as its presidential candidate and challenger to incumbent George Bush. After the successful election, Hillary was initially given far-reaching powers. The two practically ruled the White House together, with critics protesting that it was actually Hillary who was pulling the strings. During their second term, for tactical reasons following resistance from conservatives, but perhaps also due to the never-ending series of sexual escapades, the Clintons' relationship cooled both politically and privately. The film describes the drama of a public marriage that must celebrate cohesion despite internal rifts and discord. A partnership that focuses entirely on political success, not emotional attachment. A woman who stands by her husband against all odds and hurt because, above all, she stands by herself and has her own plans for the future.” (ARD Press release)
